GDC, Week 11 : Sharing Session w/Mr Mike

Mr. Mike shared with us his experience in the field of design. Since he is both an interior designer and a graphic designer at the same time, he has the opportunity to cover much more work areas, that is, to expand horizons.

I always thought that graphic design is not everywhere and it is quite possible that finding a job will not be easy. But after the session with Mr. Mike, I completely changed my attitude to design because as he said,

"we are all designers, and we can do everything in the field of design."

Then I wondered at what point the design in the world began to be divided into different categories: graphic, web, interior, fashion?

Nowadays, it can be categorized as a fancy sounding word, and there seems to be a certain amount of misconceptions surrounding it. But what is it really at its core? Is it simply a process to make pretty looking things? Far from it. It doesn’t focus purely on aesthetics, nor is it about adding ornaments to an item. First and foremost is it about making the user’s interaction with the environment more natural and complete.

While not being exactly an art nor a science, it takes elements from both. Art is about creating something that expresses the author’s vision, ideas and feelings. While designers can express feelings and leave impressions through their work, doing so is not their prime objective. So it takes the creating aspect of art, as it is about crafting an item, a tool, an experience even.

From the Mr. Mike's words, I realized that in any field, whatever it was, everywhere you can find and see the DESIGN.

Even if it will be a motorcycle or accessories. It does not matter. The most important thing is to feel that you really like it and do what brings you pleasure. Because if you do not enjoy your workplace and your works, do not expect this to bring you happiness. You must be in love with what you do.

Although, this is another matter when you work for a commercial company and must do everything as directed by managers. But this has its advantages! You can come to any company that you think is closer to you spiritually and make your work the soul of this company, make the company almost like your own.
