GDC Part 2, Week 4 : Maybank Workshop

Maybank is one of the largest banks in Malaysia. The bank has its own history and according to the 2020 Brand Finance report, Maybank is Malaysia's most valuable bank brand, the fourth top brand in Asean and ranked 72nd in the world’s most valuable bank brands.


Today we discussed the human capabilities that can be used for personal and career growth. Starting with examining/discovering yourself.

People are all different and the distinctive sides are also different for everyone. Someone may be hyperactive, someone may be more passive, but at the same time very smart and useful in the development of the company. When a person knows his strengths and weaknesses, you can enter into negotiations and meet new people, thus showing yourself to the world.

As my mentor once told me, HR is like a fur salon. We don't always need work as badly as the company needs us. First of all, a company needs talented people to promote its company.


Creating your own personal brand is probably one of the hardest projects in life. Starting from the moment in childhood when your parents ask you


"Who do you want to become in the future?"


You begin to explore yourself, your desires, your goals. You sign up for drawing, music, doing sports, chess, etc. All those things is trying to find yourself. Once you understand who you are and what world you belong to, start creating yourself, your brand and investing in yourself as much knowledge as possible.

A personal brand includes the skills you have acquired during your apprenticeship, the experience that gives you the opportunity to become a better candidate. It is very important for a company to know that exactly you are suitable for the job, you are the person they can rely on and trust.


To understand who you are, you need to look at yourself from the outside, perhaps ask friends or family for their opinion. To understand who you are as a person and as a specialist. In order to be one of the best, it is worth paying attention to some of your strengths. It doesn't have to be a wagon of talents, it can be several excellent qualities (as a specialist) that have been honed to perfection. Many people are capable of being versatile, but only a few have been able to hone certain qualities to perfectionism.


As my dad once told me, "An IT specialist can become a director but a director without IT knowledges is unlikely to become an IT specialist."


Another important detail is presentation skills. Many people dislike public speaking, but this is one of the most important traits of a specialist. You have to be able to speak in public, even if you are introvert.


To be honest, I'm not good at presenting. Since childhood I have been stuttering and still have not fully recovered from it. But with each presentation, I try to present even better and better, because I understand this is one of the most important qualities of an excellent specialist.
